Book Review Screencasts
RECORDING YOUR SCREENCAST
Before you can record a screencast, you will need to install the Screencastify extension for Google Chrome.
1. Download Screencastify
Go to the Chrome web store. (You can Google search it.)
Select Extensions from menu on far left.
Search for Screencastify. (Use the search box on left of page.)
Click ADD TO CHROME.
Open a new tab.
Click on Screencastify icon (orange arrow) to the right of the address bar on top.
Step 1: Sign in with Google - Select your oldrochester.org account and automatically save videos to Google Drive.
Step 2: Set Permissions - Check Camera and Microphone; Uncheck Drawing and Annotation Tools
Click on blue NEXT button and click on ALLOW in small pop-up window.
Step 3: Introduce Yourself - Click on Student: Click on Under 13 or Over 13 (depending on your age)
STOP the video that plays automatically.
IMPORTANT FINAL STEP: Click on the Screencastify orange icon once again to open up the small window. Click the triple bar to the left of RECORD. Click on OPTIONS, then look below RECORDING SETTINGS and DESELECT: Pause on low disk space.
You can now close out all the tabs except one.
2. Set Background for Screencast Recording
Go to goodreads.com. DO NOT SIGN IN. DO NOT CREATE AN ACCOUNT.
Look up book title in search box located halfway down page.
Click on book title to load book page.
Mouse over cover image and click on Enlarge cover.
3. Record Screencast
Click on Screencastify arrow icon.
Make sure Browser Tab is selected and appears in pink. (Click on it to select it.)
Make sure there is a check next to Microphone.
Click on RECORD TAB.
During the countdown, if you hold down the ALT button and tap T, the annotations toolbar will disappear (ALT + T).
After countdown, record your book review.
To STOP or PAUSE the recording, click on the Screencastify icon in the upper right of screen.
If you want to STOP, you can also use the (Chromebook) keyboard shortcut: ALT+Shift+ R
If you want to PAUSE or RESUME recording, you can use ALT + Shift + P
TIP: After you say your final word, wait two seconds before stopping the recording. If you don't wait a few seconds, your last few words often get cut off!
Your finished screencast will start playing automatically.
The length will be shown underneath the video.
To delete, click on the trash icon.
If you think it might like to submit the screencast for credit, copy the link by clicking on the link icon. Link will automatically be copied to clipboard.
Paste link in a Google doc by using CTRL-V.

Bensound - A great collection of Creative Commons-licensed music. Type a word in the search box that describes the mood you'd like to set, e.g., happy, scary, or mysterious. You should credit Bensound on a Music Credit page, for example:
Music: http://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music or Music: "Song title" - Bensound.com
Incompetech - Search here for a wide variety of Creative Commons-licensed music that you are free to use as long as you credit the artist. Click on View Collections, and then scroll down to find Film Scoring Moods. When you find the piece you want to use, be sure to copy the citation provided to put on a Music Credit page.
You can create your Music Credit page as a Google doc. See sample below.
