Art Posters - Creative Commons Licenses

Picture

Essential Question: How can I easily publish my artwork online and make it clear how others may legally use it?

Vocabulary
publish - share with the public
copyright - the legal right to be the only one to reproduce, publish, sell, or distribute a literary, musical, or artistic work
fair use - an allowable use of copyrighted material without permission of the copyright owner, e.g., educational use in a classroom setting
Creative Commons -  a group that was founded to make sharing creative works easier through the use of easy-to-understand licenses

Creative Commons Kiwi

All Creative Commons licenses require BY or attribution. When choosing a license for your artwork, you also need to ask yourself:
  • Do I want others to be able to make money off my artwork? If not, then add NC.
  • Do I want others to be able to change my artwork in any way? If not, then add ND.
  • If I do allow others to change my artwork, do I want them to share their new work in the same way that I am sharing mine? If yes, then add SA.

Your poster should include a statement identifying the Creative Commons license you have chosen for your artwork. The statement should be in this format:
Title of Work by Artist's Name can be reused under the CC BY?? license.

OPTIONAL: If you'd like, you can also link the name of the license to a Creative Commons page describing it. You will find the link for each license type below.
